Recent K-9 Mail Reviews
I DO NOT like the new version I installed on July 26th 2021. It is harder to navigate. I liked it just the way it was. I need polling sooner than 15 minutes for 2 of my 4 accounts. I takes a LOT longer to do everything with the new version. If you ask me a step backwards. However, I understand the changes Google requires and some of the changes might be driven by that. I was so excited when I saw an update. I wish I had waited. Thank you to the developers of this app for their efforts. ******** I have increased my rating with the latest update to the app. It is easier to work with using 4 email accounts. I DO WISH they would enable a shorter email check interval. I have one email that I am often engaged in serious exchanges and having faster fetch would be a big help.
I still miss the classic interface (especially the multi account home screen) but I’ve forced myself to get more used to it AND THEN it gets worse. The last update makes everything unbearably slow. Just going from message to message can take 5-10 seconds. I’ve been using the new interface for 6+ months and have learned to deal with (not like) it but this sudden slowness in the very last update is really pushing me away.
I was surprised this app did not have a much higher rating after recently downloading and using it. It is one of the best email programs I have ever used. It was easy to add my different email accounts. It supports aliases on outlook, and and lets you add folders to the unified folder. Unlike my last app it quickly connects to my various accounts, and also handles outgoing emails much faster. Good documentation is available. Overall an excellent app. Don’t want to wait 15min, manually refresh.
Great app. Very easy to navigate and control settings. However with the most recent update, it looks and works just like the Gmail app. What’s the point of that? If it looks, feels, and operates just like the Gmail app, why not use the Gmail app? I used k9 because it had a better layout; not anymore. The quick switch between accounts is as combersome as Gmail. I uninstalled it after 5+ years of use. And with Gmail doing “less secure app” lock downs, it’s become a pain to keep active.
This has been a solid app, despite the loss of usability in the UI. Now I’ve installed it on a tablet with Android 12. Every few minutes a message pops up that says “K9 Mail keeps stopping” “App Info” or “Close app” It will not run at all. Version is 6.00, just downloaded from Google Play.
This used to be an amazing App, however the latest version does not send email. The developer knows about the issue, but their answer is to say it is a problem with the email hosts. This is maybe the case, but it leaves a lot of users with a poor impression of the app. Suggestions have been put forward to the developer, but they have been met with deaf ears. Shame to see a great app ruined by intransigence
Used to be a great app, used it for years. Over the last year we started having emails get dropped (not delivered). Wrote it off as network issues but now it is constant on some of our devices. After research I found that a change was made to it in 2021 that made it incompatible with our mail hosting service Hostmonster as well as others. In addition the author/maintainer does not appear to want to un-break it. It’s no longer usable so we have moved all of our devices to open mail.
Free, open source. It won’t spy on you or track you. It may not be the easiest to set up, but given time to get it where you want it, it’s pretty solid. Great IMAP implementation. Some mail services will need an app password to integrate with K-9. I have a dozen accounts configured – with the unified inbox, and been a happy user for over 10 years. And still my favorite to pull all my past emails together into a single view. Works with Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo app passwords very well.
I love this email app for so many reasons. It’s flexible in options and aesthetics is the best. However, the for the past two phones and operating systems, its polling function is completely unreliable. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to polling to randomly becoming disabled, then showing it’s working again, without making any changes to settings. Very aggravating. Too bad. Hope they get it fixed once and for all.
Used this happily for years. But the recent change adds nothing useful, and takes away great features (can’t set the notification light color, can’t set the vibration pattern). And on my wife’s phone, as well as a friend’s, it simply doesn’t send outgoing mail. No warnings, no apparent errors, messages in the Sent folder. But nobody receives them. I might roll my version back, despite being cumbersome. Or I might look around for other options. In its current form, I don’t recommend this app.
