Recent Space Pinball: Classic game Reviews
It’s not bad and mildly entertaining, but unfortunately if you’re expecting the Windows 95 Plus experience like me, you’ll be disappointed. The physics are most definitely not nearly as realistic as the original, and for me that kills the experience. Plus it does have a tendency to crash fairly often.
This was a game with true potential that was wasted. Inexplicable amounts of ads, 30 seconds after each game. You get two balls instead of three, and you have to watch an ad for one more. The physics, while refined from the pc version are no improvement due to the odd geometry. Certain shots off the rail (like reflex and hyperspace shots) are nearly impossible. On top of that, its missing tilts, which were game-saving in the original. However, all the good features are negated by ferocious ads.
Almost the same as the old desktop version, but there are some quirks. My muscle memory came back (after not playing this game for years) and the ball doesn’t react to the flippers in the way that you expect it to, somtimes. I remember the left flipper being able to bounce the ball straight up, if you timed it right, but this new one shoots it out at an angle no matter what you do. Not a huge deal, but it is causing me to relearn old skills.
I don’t like this much aside from the looks like the legitimate version on pc. It is much more difficult to play, sometimes there is lag of the right bumper which can lose you the game. The points and challenge system work differently and make it impossible to score big off them. And the ADS, after EVERY GAME. Ridiculous. Deleting after making this review.
1 star due to the incredibly active ads at the bottom causing it to lag tremendously. I’ve not been able to finish a single game without losing because of this. It’s okay to have ads, that’s fine. But ads that are more active than the game itself…just stupid. The game would be great otherwise. But 1 star from me because I can’t even enjoy it. Garbage decision to have ads like that.
This game radiates nostalgia; which is why it’s so disappointing to have such small bugs interfere with the experience. The Hyperspace jackpot doesn’t have full sound effects and sometimes eats the ball, casually putting it at the top without points. The ball physics are inconsistent making it difficult to aim of flippers and causes it move in unnatural ways. Skill shot doesn’t award point consistently. There’s no multi-ball or gravity well, and the game will randomly drop missions mid-play. Smh
This is genuinely an amazing game, and I happily bought the ad free very quickly but it isn’t perfect like the original. Like others have said, there are sounds missing from the game and the game physics feel somewhat off. It is still fun though and very nostalgic, so hopefully the creator of this app comes back to it and helps it develop.
Best remake out there so far! Although I do wish the game gave us the whole three balls that the original gave us instead of just giving us two balls, and forcing us to watch an ad for the third. Some of the sound effects are not present, especially in the hyperpsace chute, and some sound effects are not in the correct spots, but I don’t really find the latter a huge issue. Overall, it’s a pretty solid remake, and would recommend to anyone else like myself who were a major fan of the original!!!
I love the original version of this game. This remake is fairly well done. I have the same issues as other reviewers (physics, sometimes the ball goes through the tips of the flippers, etc.) The biggest reason I rated this 3 when it should be a 5 is because when you do the missions, it does not save your progress after you lose the ball. So you have to start from square one every single time you “die”. Please fix this! The game is barely worth playing if I can’t progress! Keep up the good work!
So far so good. Feels just like it should. I have found a bug (at least for mine)… on the right side of the table, after the ball is launched from behind the flipper, the little bar comes down to block the ball from using that again, but the ball passes that wall, but gets stuck inside. This then forces me to close app and reset. I still very much enjoy the game👍, just that bug here and there.
